    Seek proper test

I meant that if you use median as descriptive statistic and M-W test for comparison groups by categorical data with such small amount of values, you will often have situation in which medians are equal and the test shows statistical significance.

How you will use median for these data as descriptive statistic, if M-W test shows statistical significance?

    Seek proper test

We can't use median for such data, because usually medians are equal but M-W test shows statistical significance. And this example is the same. I would say that the distributions are different and text A better than text B. Another way is aggregate values, for example, first two and others and...

    Seek proper test

I think, Mann-Whitney test would be suitable method for these data. But you should describe your data as you wrote, numbers of participants and percentages for each answer. Averages (means) don't have sense for such data.

    Seek proper test

Hello, gregapan! It depends on the questions, whether or not to summarize answers, range of values, type of distribution. May you provide more information?

What kind of SPSS analyses for data from transverse patterning experiment

Hello, Aya911! May you present the histograms? You may use ANOVA in case of not "heavy" tails. I agree with Spearman's rho for age. For gender, you may provide Wilcoxon test within transverse patterning and non-transverse patterning separately.

What kind of SPSS analyses for data from transverse patterning experiment

Aya911, if you should use total attempts in your report, then use this variable in analysis. I think it would be better to provide r.m. ANOVA for log-transformated values, also I would make Wilcoxon test for raw data in order compare with ANOVA.

What kind of SPSS analyses for data from transverse patterning experiment

Hi, Aya911, sure, it is depended samples, sorry for mistake. How did you check the distributions? As I know, is it possible to use ANOVA for variables with "not quite normal" distribution. Make histograms. I suggests, the distributions have heavy left tail, so using log-transfomation should be...

What kind of SPSS analyses for data from transverse patterning experiment

Hello, Aya911, Kind of analysis is depends on number of participants and distribution of number of trial attempts. It may be t test for independent groups or (mosy likely) Mann-Whitney test. I would prefer to compare number of wrong attempts. Of course, you have only one IV with 2 levels...

Regression with 1 Y observation and 5 X observations per subject.

kpateras, do you have times of measurements? I meant meaning of the variables. I think, in case if Y and X were measured in the same time, a mixed model is not appropriate method because a lot of missings. At least, I havn't another ideas. (

Regression with 1 Y observation and 5 X observations per subject.

Hello, kpateras. More information about the nature of variables is needed. I'd build a regression for X with relative time as predictor, then try to look on relation between (b0, b1) and Y, may be calculate correlation or another regression, but I'm not sure that it correct approach for your data.

Relationship between a variable with categories and a variable with numbers?

I would like to add that we don't know what variable is the "factor" and what is the "effect". Regression with symptoms as predictors and stay in hospital as dependent variable also can be made, it more simple for interpretation. I think, more appropriate method is Cochrane-Armitage test. It...

    Question about logistic regression.

kluader, as you wrote, you have performed the regression. You need to google an annotated output of SPSS for this model in order to find necessary coefficients for the equation.

    Question about logistic regression.

Hello, kluader, As I understand, you have the regression equation already. If so, it is arithmetical question. Just make 2 identical sequences of salary, with the appropriate step, one for men and another for women, in excel sheet for example, then input to the next column a formulae of the...

How can I make one frequency table out of multiple categorical variables?

Hello, mathsucks, use Custom Tables. If you haven't this package, try Analysis - > Explore, but I'm not sure it will help.

    Anova question

Hello, Grantyb, you can use ANOVA repeated for this analysis. But firstly you need to check assumptions to use this model: make histograms for each test and see how the distributions are similar to the normal.
