Discrete or Continuous ???
I know that discrete variables have a countable # of outcomes. I know that continuous variables have an infinite # of outcomes. But how 'bout these ???......the temperature today, the US deficit??? What are they considered?? Could someone help me? Steph

Temperature is a continous variable but is reported discretly.
I always if in doubt ask my self what is the probability that it will be a specific value. If the answer is 0 then it is continous. A point on the real line has zero width so the probability that the observed value will be a particular point is zero. Peter |
