Best method for ranking

Hello,

I have the following table with 5 candidates and a frequency count of rankings obtained by each candidate in a series of activities. I need now to score the "best" candidate.

Code:
    Rank 1 Rank 2 Rank 3 Rank 4 Rank 5 Total
cand1 65 34 7 4 2 112
cand2 23 26 32 22 9 112
cand3 5 19 21 37 30 112
cand4 18 23 22 34 15 112
cand5 12 25 14 19 42 112
I am quite naive in terms of statistics, so any advise for a sound formula/method would be very much appreciated

You need to weight the rankings to score the candidates. If Rank 1 is how well he ties his tie, and Rank 2 is education and Rank 3 is his shoe color...
The weights do/should/ vary. Gotit?

I must have expressed my self wrongly: cand1 has scored/got 65 times in Rank 1, 34 in Rank 2 etc. In the table, you see a frequency of how many times that rank (1-5) has been scored by each candidate. Now, I need to combine the 5 ranks frequencies of each candidate to obtain which candidate performed best.

Did the rankers weight the rank description?
Give us some examples, else this is asking us to pick a number from 1 to27.
Explain what you're doing, or make up the story.
