Is there a preference for descriptive data display?

I'm currently writing up a Psychology PhD thesis and wondered whether there was a preferred way of displaying descriptive stats (mean and SEM values for each group). This is for a 2 x 3 mixed design. It seems there is a preference for bar charts, but why wouldn't line charts be better? You can compare groups more easily (I think). Attached is an example of a display that I think would be better as a line graph.

Less is more. Stay pure. Stay poor.
Yup, I can say that one is not my fav visually, but you get the concept. For example in your original plot, you can only see the whisker in one direction.

Fortran must die
I would look at what journals in your field do. It varies with the discipline. Although much better is to ask your committee for their preferences or read their past works :p
