4. It appears that this can be modeled by a Bernoulli experiment. Remember that the mean of a Bernoulli random variable (Y/n) has an approximate normal distribution with mu = p and sigma = sqrt(p(1-p)/n).

Recall the test statistic you want to calculate here:

z = (Xbar - mu) / sigma = (Xbar - p) / sqrt(p(1-p)/n)
= (.53 - .58) / sqrt(.58(1-.58)/600)

where z has a standard normal distribution. If alpha is 0.05 we want to set it equal to the probability of rejecting the null given the null is true. If the null hypothesis is:

Ho: mu = 0.58

and the alternative hypothesis is:

Ha: mu < 0.58

then the C region satisfies:

P( z < C) = 0.05

In this case C is -1.645

if the value of z is below this critical value, then reject the null hypothesis.
