positive and negative beta

G'day.

I was wondering, in my multiple regression model, I added only all positive or all negatively correlated independent variables thinking that I want the overall model to say something consistent about the effects of the variables (i.e. positive or negative). I now know that this isn't right. But what is the interpretation of the model if it contains variables with positive and negative betas? -Just that all of this variables impact the dependent variable?

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Positive and negative coefficients both mean there is an impact of the independent variable on the dependent variable. What usually is a concern is those coefficients close to zero.
