Hello all!

I am an undergrad who is wrapping up my BA in a few weeks and I am going to be attending graduate school in the Spring of 08; majoring in Marketing Research (more the consumer behavior side, and I probably will take a more qualitative/psychological approach rather than hard quant.)

I wanted to make the most out of the next few months and start getting more comfortable with Statistics. I don't really have much of a background. I completed an intro Statistics course (I got an A-) but my professor was lousy and I have no idea how I got such a good grade. I managed to get through my Marketing Research class with an A with the help of statistics for dummies- but my grade was mostly based on good ideas, communication & writing skills, and understanding the marketing side of things (and not so much the stat side.)

Can anyone recommend a good statistics text - preferably one that nails down the concepts and ideas behind everything (not just calculations.) Ideally I'd like an introductory text that maybe delves into the intermediate.
Also, can anyone recommend a good text on the concepts of data analysis
in a social sciences setting? Really any string of texts... anything you guys/gals can recommend... as long as there is some progression and the author can explain things well (i.e. an undergrad could understand the text, but a PhD might still use it)
