Transforming latitudes and longitudes into Uniform Variables

I've got a range of latitude coordinates that i'd like to transform into a uniform variable (0-1 scale with 0 being the minimum latitude and 1 being the maximum latitude. Can someone give me some guidance as to the best way to do this in SPSS or SAS?

Example:
Latitudes
29.9761111
30.3572222
30.3969444
30.4941667

Uniform Variable
0
?
?
1

Possible Solution

After playing around with it, I was able to transform the data using the Compute function in SPSS and adapting the following:

new lat = [old lat - min(lat)]/[max(lat) - min(lat)

new long = [old long - min(long)]/[max(long) - min(long)

If someone else can think of a better way, I'd love to hear it.
