Help in choosing Test of significance.!

#1
Friends,

I am a new member of this forum. I am pursuing doctoral degree course and am finished with data compilation and tabulation. However, I am stuck at a point where I have to test whether my results are significantly correct or not. I do not know how to do hypothesis testing and that which test is to be applied. I only know that, because my sample size is above 500, chi square will not apply as it applies to sample size upto 30 (Correct me if I am wrong). Plz help..!

Your Question is like more general ( not specific ) one.

I would suggest you to go throught wiki site
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statistical_hypothesis

Remember two points
More the sample (higher the sample size) Better for the conclusion.
Chi Square is a just a measure of distance between actual and calculated or estimated.

May be you could ask more specific question. What exactly you want to test?
One of us may be able to help you to form the hypothesis. See:

for some definition and examples.

Hope this helps
