I am sure I am overthinking this...

HI,
I am a graduate nursing student taking an informatics course. I am doing some review questions that really are basic, and like I said , I am probably just over thinking this issue. Anyway, I have looked everywhere, my textbook, lecture notes, stats websites, etc trying to figure this out on my own. The question involves an independent variable (footwear) with 2 dependent variables (speed (in seconds) and comfort vs uncomfortable)...the question asks what is the level of measurement for the independent variable? (choices-ratio, ordinal, interval, or nominal). My issue is that I feel the dependent variables would be measured differently (seconds-ratio and comfort (nominal..i think)), and so I am focusing on this and now have lock-down brain. I would appreciate any help. Thank you for your time!
