They constantly change the protections where I work. I tried to install a new package (which seemed to work) but then got

Error in unpackPkgZip(foundpkgs[okp, 2L], foundpkgs[okp, 1L], lib, libs_only, :
ERROR: failed to lock directory ‘\\fldvr.net\hq\Users\rthellein\Documents\R\win-library\4.0’ for modifying
Try removing ‘\\fldvr.net\hq\Users\rthellein\Documents\R\win-library\4.0/00LOCK’

No idea what that means

I found a work around and got this when I ran it

package ‘MASS’ successfully unpacked and MD5 sums checked
Error in unpackPkgZip(foundpkgs[okp, 2L], foundpkgs[okp, 1L], lib, libs_only, :
ERROR: failed to lock directory ‘\\fldvr.net\hq\Users\rthellein\Documents\R\win-library\4.0’ for modifying
Try removing ‘\\fldvr.net\hq\Users\rthellein\Documents\R\win-library\4.0/00LOCK’

I am not sure if the installation took or not, although when I run a library("MASS") it appears to be loaded. I will have to run some code and find out.

Are you able to remove the file it's referencing?
I don't know how to tell.

I ran this which I found suggested. I don't know if this removes a file or not. I had no file open that I know of.

install.packages("MASS", dependencies = TRUE, INSTALL_opts = '--no-lock')

I'm just saying go into the file manager and remove the lock file it's referencing and then try to do what you want to do again
