So I know quark is the admin now (thanks for getting back to me by the way!). Are there any other moderators here? I know a couple users I would suggest to be mods to help keep this place cleaned up. If we do eventually get that wiki going (which I think is a really cool idea) we would probably need some authority figures there too.

I believe that all the people listed as "TS Contributor" have authority to Modify/delete posts and ban users that want to spam the forum. There are several of us.

Oh is that what that means. I guess it's just not very clear. Thanks. How many mods are there anyways? It doesn't seem like there's a very good way to search the members of the forum.

I've had the status of supermod for 2 years now... sadly because I'm crazy busy with work and teaching now (for the next 2 months aswell) I dont come here very often. I certainly come here from time to time, and I will make sure to forward the 'reported' posts to my email adress so there is a more rapid response.

Much of the spamming occurs during daylight time 'china time zone'. It would be great to get a mod from that region now that vinux isnt as active anymore. Bugman do you have mod rights?

I didnt bother changing my listing as 'TS-Contributor" as that is how quark filled it in for me and I guess thats how he likes it.. though I see how it can be confusing for many users. I think I'll change my title accordingly for the benefit of clarity on the forum.

Hmm, looks I've become a "TS Contributor" too. Where do I find the banhammer? ;)
I see in the modcp that you (and also Bugman) haven't been granted mod rights by quark. Though it may be useful to have a mod from your time-zone on the forum to catch the far-east spammers rapidly!

Thanks for the suggestion TheEcologist. I just set up the moderator account for bugman and CowboyBear.

This forum has grown so much the spam interest now is incredible. See below for the log (6:30-8:30am today) of a spam filter at registration.

Hmmmm....so is moderator status automatic once you become a TS contributor, or does it have to be configured manually?

It has to be set by quark.

I assumed, incorrectly, that people that were "TS contributor"s were the ones with moderator powers since when quark gave me moderator authority the title TS contributor appeared under my screen name.

I didn't know this either, so I will follow the new protocol now and change the designation from TS Contributor --> Super Moderator

Is there an area for moderator discussion? I think it wouldn't be a bad idea (if possible) to have a sub-board that only moderators could go into to discuss certain issues.

In the forum manager I see that there is a sub-board called "contributor's lounge" but it doesn't appear on the main page for me. I'm not in the TS Contributor's group so that might have something to do with it. Is that area similar to what I'm asking about?

Hi Dason,

The 'contributor's lounge' was on the main page about 1 year ago, but it became unaccessible when forum changes were implemented (I believe back when the 'thank system' was introduced). I dont know if there was a reason behind this (quark do you know what happened?)

It was on occasion useful, but wasn't used much as I recall. A discussion as this one could best be conducted in such a forum. So I would agree that it would be useful to reinstate the 'regulars lounge'. What do you think quark?

Yeah I disabled the "Contributor's Lounge" due to non-activity. That forum had <20 (maybe <10) threads in three years. There's apparently not much need for a private forum for contributors. We can talk about forum related issues in this forum, and there are stats and non-stats general discussion forums. They should be good for most topics. And there is the PM system for private discussions. We'll see how it goes.
